The British Army is harnessing its horse power to produce renewable energy. In one of the more unusual applications that GPS has been involved with the company will provide the control system for a biomass process for The Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery to produce energy from the waste of almost 150 horses stabled at Woolwich Barracks.

GPS and strategic partner FSD will provide the control system and electrical installation to main contractor Morgan Sindall, who are managing the upgrade of the biomass boiler which will burn the waste to supply hot water to the barracks. In addition to green energy the process will also save five lorry journeys through London every day to dispose of the waste.

The Kings Troop is famous for providing The Queen's ceremonial Saluting Battery with six horse teams pulling the First World War thirteen pounder state saluting guns that are fired in Hyde Park and Green Park on Royal anniversaries and state occasions.
