GPS has become a member of the Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association, ADBA, the trade association representing developers, equipment manufacturers and operators of AD plants that generate electricity from biogas.
Having completed five AD power generation schemes for three UK water companies GPS is looking to extend its capability to the wider AD and waste to energy sector, to plants that convert agricultural, industrial and municipal wastes as well as specially grown crops, into biogas.
AD is expected to grow rapidly in the UK, with around 300 plants currently, this figure is expected to exceed 1000 in the next five years, but still lags behind Europe where Germany leads the field with more than 7000 from farm scale to full scale power stations producing 4% of its total energy.
Control of the biological process plays an important part in optimizing digester performance for efficient biogas production with a high Methane content for maximum electricity output. GPS is looking to apply its experience of large scale schemes to a scalable product that provides an economic solution for medium size AD schemes and series builds.
